Overview
SEOAgent v1.0 adds an AI-search-readiness workflow built around two machine-readable outputs: llms.txt and an Open Knowledge Format bundle. Both are generated in the website repository so they can be reviewed and deployed through the site's existing pipeline.
02
What is Open Knowledge Format?
SEOAgent's documentation describes Open Knowledge Format, or OKF, as an open specification published by Google Cloud in 2026 for packaging organizational knowledge as a directory of Markdown files with YAML frontmatter. SEOAgent points developers to the GoogleCloudPlatform knowledge-catalog/okf specification and reference implementation.
The practical idea is to give AI systems a structured, version-controlled representation of a business or site's knowledge rather than rely only on crawling arbitrary HTML pages.
03
What SEOAgent does with OKF
The CLI can scaffold, validate and prepare an OKF bundle from the site's own context, strategy and published content. SEOAgent says deterministic operations such as scaffolding and validation are handled by the CLI while the knowledge itself is written by the coding agent and remains reviewable.
That distinction matters: an OKF bundle should be treated like published content. Incorrect claims inside machine-readable files are still incorrect claims.
04
Where the OKF bundle is published
SEOAgent's public site describes the bundle as being hosted under /.well-known/okf/. Because the files live in the repository, the exact production behavior depends on the site's framework, static assets and deployment configuration.
Verify the final public URLs after deployment rather than assuming a generated local directory is automatically reachable.
05
What about llms.txt?
SEOAgent also supports generating llms.txt, a machine-oriented text resource intended to make important site content easier for language-model systems to discover and consume.
The tool includes an ownership check: its docs say that if the application already serves /llms.txt through a route, sync will avoid silently shadowing that route with a static file. A project setting can keep route ownership explicit.
This is a useful safety pattern for frameworks where the same URL can be produced by either a route handler or a public static asset.
06
How to generate the files
The developer resources list seoagent llms and seoagent okf among the CLI commands. The AI-search-readiness docs specifically reference seoagent okf validate for validation.
Run these commands on a branch, inspect every generated file, confirm that the knowledge matches the public site, then deploy through the site's normal pipeline.
07
Does OKF improve AI rankings or citations?
There is not enough independent evidence to promise that publishing OKF or llms.txt will make a brand appear in ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini or Google AI Overviews. SEOAgent markets the workflow as AI-search readiness, but discoverability, retrieval and citation are controlled by external systems.
A responsible implementation treats these files as structured accessibility/context infrastructure, not as a guaranteed ranking factor.
08
How this differs from schema markup
JSON-LD/schema.org markup describes entities and page semantics in a standardized structured-data vocabulary embedded in or associated with web pages. OKF packages broader organizational knowledge in Markdown/YAML files. llms.txt acts as a machine-readable orientation/resource file.
They can coexist. Adding one is not a reason to remove valid structured data, sitemaps, canonical tags, crawl controls or useful HTML content.
09
Keep source-of-truth discipline
Because an OKF bundle can summarize a company, product and content corpus, stale information is a risk. Tie updates to the same source-of-truth process used for the website. If pricing, availability, policies or product claims change, update machine-readable knowledge at the same time.
10
Verification checklist
Confirm the OKF spec/version currently supported. Validate the bundle. Check that /.well-known/okf/ resolves after deployment. Check /llms.txt. Confirm no route/static ownership conflict. Compare machine-readable claims with visible site content. Keep robots/crawler policy intentional. Preserve canonical, sitemap and schema infrastructure. Test with actual retrieval/citation tools instead of assuming visibility.

FAQ
Is OKF a Google ranking factor?
No verified source cited here establishes OKF as a Google ranking factor. Do not publish that claim.
Does llms.txt guarantee LLM citations?
No. It can expose a machine-readable resource, but external AI systems decide whether and how to use it.
Can SEOAgent overwrite an existing llms.txt route?
The current documentation says it detects an existing route conflict and does not publish a shadowing static file; ownership can be configured explicitly.
Is OKF only for SEOAgent?
No. SEOAgent describes it as an open, vendor-neutral format and links to Google's public specification/reference implementation.
Should I use OKF instead of schema or sitemap files?
No. These mechanisms solve different jobs and can be complementary.
