Overview
SEOAgent is designed to sit inside the same repository where a coding agent edits your website. The basic workflow is install the CLI, initialize its project workspace, inspect the generated context, run audits or research commands, let your coding agent make file changes, review the diff, and only then deploy through your normal pipeline.
02
1. Check the environment first
You need a website repository and a supported coding-agent workflow. SEOAgent currently lists Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and Grok bots, plus a standalone CLI. Keep the repository under version control so every proposed SEO edit can be inspected and reverted.
03
2. Install the CLI
The official docs currently show:
npm install -g @seoagent-official/seoagent seoagent init
They also document npx -y @seoagent-official/seoagent
04
3. Run seoagent init
Initialization creates a .seoagent/ workspace in the repository and scaffolds the Skill/context the coding agent uses. Review the files it creates before accepting them into version control, especially in a repository with custom deployment or content-generation rules.
05
4. Check status and diagnose setup
The developer resources list seoagent status and seoagent doctor among the core commands. Use them before asking an agent to make broad changes so setup problems are separated from SEO recommendations.
06
5. Crawl the site
seoagent crawl is the local audit step. The point is to ground recommendations in the site's actual pages rather than ask a model to guess the current technical state.
After a crawl, inspect what the tool reports and keep human judgment in the loop. A detected SEO issue is not automatically a reason to rewrite a working page.
07
6. Use focused commands
The current CLI index includes commands for keywords, internal links, sitemap work, llms.txt and OKF. Prefer a focused task over an unrestricted “optimize everything” prompt. For example, audit canonical/meta problems first, then internal links, then a specific content opportunity.
08
7. Review every code change
SEOAgent says its local workflow does not publish to a CMS or push the repository. The coding agent writes the changes, leaving them in the working tree for review.
Use your normal Git diff, tests, lint/build checks and preview deployment before merging. For generated pages, verify factual claims and sources separately from technical correctness.
09
8. Connect cloud features only when needed
The paid Autopilot layer adds Google Search Console analysis, competitor/SERP research, review queues and synchronization. Cloud commands include login, sync and inbox.
Before connecting a production property, verify the requested GSC permissions and current privacy/data-handling terms. SEOAgent's site says its SOC 2 program is in progress, not completed.
10
9. Understand approval behavior
The standard local flow is human-reviewed. The Grok-bot documentation, however, describes an autonomous queue where auto-approve can be on by default. If you use that mode, inspect approval settings before giving a bot access to a production repository.
11
10. Deploy through your own pipeline
SEOAgent writes repository files; your existing Git/CI/CD workflow remains the publication authority. This separation is useful because it keeps SEO automation reviewable and rollback-friendly.
12
Useful commands to know
seoagent init initializes the project. seoagent status checks state. seoagent doctor diagnoses setup. seoagent crawl audits the live site. seoagent keywords supports keyword work. seoagent internal-links handles link opportunities. seoagent llms works with llms.txt. seoagent okf handles Open Knowledge Format. seoagent sitemap supports sitemap workflows. Cloud users also get login, sync and inbox commands.
Command behavior can change as v1.0 evolves, so use the official CLI reference as the authority.
13
Safe rollout checklist
Start on a branch. Inspect .seoagent/ files. Run a crawl before editing. Give the agent one bounded task. Review every diff. Verify claims and sources. Run tests/build. Preview before merging. Keep auto-approval off until you understand the workflow. Recheck GSC and cloud permissions before connecting production data.

FAQ
Does SEOAgent need Claude Code?
No. The current product lists Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Grok bots and standalone CLI use.
Can SEOAgent change my website automatically?
The standard local workflow produces repository changes for review. Autonomous configurations may pre-approve queued work, so inspect your settings.
Can I use SEOAgent without paying?
The current pricing page lists the local Skill as free. Cloud Autopilot is separately priced.
Should I let it rewrite the whole site?
A bounded, evidence-driven workflow is safer. Start with one audit or one clearly defined SEO task and review the resulting diff.
